Building

The elegant construction resembles a tree, according to the architects also an inverted waterfall flowing over the passengers' heads. It is called "Seashells" in London and there will be more and more passengers. Due to the ever-increasing interest of passengers in this station, the main goal of the reconstruction was to increase the station's capacity to 60 million passengers a year.

Structure

The stunning steel and glass lattice frame with the largest span of an arch in Europe, partially letting natural light into the vast space, stretches the entire 150m length of the departure lounge which is said to be the largest lounge in the world. It is supported by a 20-meter high cone in its center and by 16 smaller columns on its sides.
